The government is set to deploy police officers in Kampala city to supervise the work of Kampala Capital City Authority enforcement team following the death of a city vendor.
35-year old Olivia Basemere, drowned in Nakivubo channel on Friday as she reportedly fled from KCCA enforcement officers.
Basemera who was a handkerchief vendor was allegedly being pursuing by the officers when she fell into the channel.
Addressing journalists at the Office of the President this morning, the state minister of Kampala Benny Namugwanya said that since police officers are well trained, they are better positioned to supervise the enforcement officers and advise them on how to handle difficult situations.
She added that they are waiting for the official report from police about the circumstances under which the vendor died before the government decides the next step of action.
