The Minister of state for Lands Persis Namuganza has halted the construction of Kisekka Market to pave way for investigations into the alleged sale of part of the land.
The Minister, who addressed crowds of traders at this extensive hub of motor vehicle spare parts and accessories amidst tight security, castigated the current market leadership heading the construction exercise for failure to engage traders who are the right beneficiaries.
She was invited by a faction of traders led by Geoffrey Kaita which alleges that the construction committee has been bringing in traders from other places to book shops, which it fears would lead to majority of original traders losing out.
The President in 2014 donated Shs. 15b to the Kisekka Market traders to purchase the land where the current market block is being constructed.
