Mobile money agents under the Umbrella Kampala Mobile Money Dealers Association are today closing down their businesses over the controversial mobile money tax.
The dealers through the chairman Matthias Lukyamuzi last week announced they would close all their outlets for two weeks until government revises its decision.
Lukyamuzi says they have already informed all agents’ country wide to close their businesses threatening to storm parliament again if nothing is done.
The dealers recently marched to parliament to petition the speaker Rebecca Kadaga demanding for the removal of the 0.5% which was proposed by the president and said was open for discussion.
The Speaker on Monday received a petition from a group of students from Makerere University concerning the mobile money tax.
She said parliament would convene today to discuss these controversial taxes.
