A new Supreme is expected to be announced before the end of the year.
This has been by the titular head of the Muslim community in Uganda Prince Khasim Nakibinge during Eidh prayers at the Kibuli mosque.
He says the committee is finalizing the selection process, calling for patience from the Muslims.
The new Supreme Mufti will replace the late Sheikh Zubairi Kayongo.
Nakibinge has also challenged Muslims to offer themselves for elective positions in the forthcoming elections if they are to advance their cause.
Meanwhile, the Muslim community has been urged to actively participate in the country’s electoral process.
In his Eidh Message delivered to believers at the old Kampala Mosque, the Deputy Imam Sheik Imran Ssali has emphasized the importance of voting.
Likening voting to a business, he explained that the more one invests in terms of level of involvement, the more they reap.
Sheikh Ssali has also asked the Electoral Commission to take into consideration Muslims’ prayer days while setting election dates to avoid being locked out.
