The newly sworn in chairman of the National Drug Authority Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo has vowed crack down on people who are repackaging expired drugs in Uganda.
While speaking at the consultative meeting on the Draft National Food and Drug Bill, Bitekyerezo said that they have got intelligence information showing that there is a group of people who have specialized in re-packaging these drugs and distributing them to unsuspecting buyers.
He says they are waiting for the bill to be passed after more than ten years of being shelved, warning that despite the delays they will launch operations in Kampala to weed out such unscrupulous persons.
This bill seeks to regulate all drugs imported into Uganda, those manufactured wihin Uganda, drugs in field trials, operations of pharmacies and others.
