Government has set a 31st December ultimatum for all foreigners to register their businesses.
The directive comes as government seeks to promote the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) policy as directed by President Yoweri Museveni
Delivering his state of the nation Address the president directed all ministries, Departments and Agencies to procure locally manufactured products to implement.
Trade minister Amelia Kyambadde says most of these foreigners operating as traders in the country, come in as tourists but end up starting up small businesses.
The minister insists that foreigners are only supposed to invest in bigger ventures and not operate petty businesses like selling clothes and running retail shops.
The Buy Uganda Build Uganda Policy launched in June this year aims at increasing consumption of local products and increasing participation of the locally established firms in domestic trade.
