The prosecutors’ strike continues to take a toll on the police which now has to hold suspects longer than required.
At Gulu Central Police Station suspects arrested on allegations of committing capital offenses have been held in detention for close to a month.
This has been confirmed by the Aswa Regional Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema, who says the suspects cannot be taken to court because of the ongoing strikes of state prosecutors.
State prosecutors laid down their tools last month demanding better pay and welfare.
Okema now says the strikes by state prosecutors has forced police to release minor offenders on bond while those suspected of committing capital offenses are still being held in custody.
He however does not disclose the numbers of suspects currently being held at the police station.
