The 8 Red Pepper directors and senior journalists have been granted bail by the Buganda Road Court.
The ruling has been delivered by Buganda Road Grade One magistrate Samuel Kagoda who ordered them to execute a non-cash bond of 20 million shillings each.
They are accused of offending and endangering national security.
The accused are expected to return to court on January 19th 2018 for further hearing of the case.
The prosecutor from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Abdul-Salam Waiswa had earlier asked court not to release the suspects on bail for fear of repetitive offending and endangering national security.
However, the magistrate indicated that this would not be possible since the Red Pepper premises remain cordoned off as a crime scene.
