The Uganda Sports Press Associations (USPA) has on Monday voted Uganda Cranes and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Dennis Onyango as the month of October 2016 best sports personality.
This was during the sports body’s monthly convention at Lugogo Tennis Courts hotel, the last monthly assembly held for the 2014-16 USPA monthly assembly for the Sabiiti Muwanga led regime.
Onyango won CAF Champions league with Mamelodi Sundowns football club after overcoming Zamalek 3-2 on aggregate.
He also became the first Ugandan to achieve the feat after Yunus Sentamu had tried with AS Vita, Patrick Ochan and Mike Mutyaba with TP Mazembe.
The gangly shot stopper beat 2016 Nile Special national pool champion, Sula Matovu, City Oilers basketball team and the Uganda National Golf team to the top award that comes with a plaque and a cash reward of Ug.shs 500,000.
CKI pool player Sula Matovu was nominated by Clive Kyazze and seconded by Solomon Ssaka for winning the 2016 Nile Special National pool championship.
New Vision’s Michael Nsubuga nominated the Uganda Golf Team for winning their third East Africa Golf Challenge title in a row
Nsubuga was seconded by Daily Monitor’s sub-sports editor Innocent Ndawula.
Daily Monitor sports editor Mark Namanya nominated the City Oilers basketball team and was seconded by NBS T.v’s Moses Alsayed Lubega.
Commendations:
The sports journalists also commended lady golfer Flavia Namakula (won the 2016 Uganda Ladies Golf Open) and Hima Cement Hima Heathens (won the national 10’s championship).
The members will now switch allegiance to the body’s polls slate for 26th November 2016 at Christ the King Hall.
