Sitting volleyball team needs Shs100m for Morocco trip

The national men’s sitting volleyball team is likely to skip next week’s World Cup qualifiers in Morocco due to lack of funding.
The physically challenged team, which has been training at Lugogo for the last two months, needs Shs100m to travel to North Africa for the event due April 14 to 18.

“It will be very unfair for the team to miss the qualifiers after all this hard work,” Uganda National Sitting Volleyball chairman, Ali Mukasa, told Daily Monitor. “We don’t know where to turn to now that government tells us there is no money.” A 16-man team has already been named for the event. The team is  hopeful of excelling in the event and making it to the 2014 World Cup in Elbag, Poland.
In case they secure funds at the last minute, this will be the second time Uganda takes part in the World Cup qualifiers.

At the 2011 edition in Kigali, Uganda finished third behind Rwanda and Kenya. Only three teams will represent Africa at the World Cup.
