The ministry of education has released the Uganda Certificate of Education results indicating an improvement in general performance with the boys performing better than girls, but the girls performed better in English.
According to the Uganda National Examinations Board Executive Secretary Mr. Matthew Bukenya, the failure rate has reduced from 8.8%in 2013 to 6.6% in 2014.
English and Humanities are the best done subjects while Geography, Mathematics and Physics were performed poorly.
There has been an improvement in Chemistry, Agriculture, Fine Art  and Commerce. Bukenya also notes that performance in Mathematics and Physics dropped while there was slight improvement for Chemistry.
A notable improvement has also been registered in Agriculture, Fine Art and Commerce.
The results show that boys totaling to 9.2 percent passed in grade one against 6.1% of girls in the same grade.
Poor performance has been recorded by mainly districts in Eastern Uganda with districts like Namayingo, Bugiri, Buyende, Bulambuli Budaka and Busia featuring prominently among the worst performers.

Others are Gomba, Bulambuli Namayingo, BuhwenjuKalangala, Nakapiripirit, Maracha, Amudat and Dokolo that has got no first grade.

The best districts include Kampala, Wakiso, Luweero, Mukono Mbarara, Bushenyi among others.
Results of 1939 students from 97 centers have been withheld over suspected malpractice.

Releasing the results, Education Minister Jessica Education minister Jessica Alupo ordered the permanent secretary to deal with all teachers who engage in malpractice.
The minister also ordered UNEB to withdraw center numbers from schools that have had their examinations withheld.

Some of the schools whose results have been withheld include St Mary’s Lacor where 24 candidates have been affected.
At Luweero View SS results of 24 students have been withheld, New Castle High School 49, Kikaaya College 39.
In Wakiso district, Crane Field Mattugga and St George High School have been affected
