Authorities in Mayuge have arrested thirty two people over alleged refusal to dig pit latrines for their homes.

The suspects were arrested from Malongo sub-county in an operation led by the District Disease Surveillance focal person Edward Naguyo.

Naguyo says the crackdown on latrine defaulters in the district is
intended to prevent possible outbreaks of diseases like cholera.

Naguyo reveals that only 38 percent of the population in Malongo sub-county has latrines leaving the majority without.

He says those arrested will be produced before court to answer charges of lack of latrine facilities.
