About 567 young people contracting HIV every week in Uganda.

As Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate the international Candlelight Memorial day tomorrow, government says Uganda has lost over 1 million people due to HIV/AIDS disease.

The minister for the presidency Esther Mbayo says since the inception of HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Uganda, the country has lost over a million persons.

The candle light day which is commemorated internationally on every 17th of May, it’s an annual grass root level mobilization events that brings to light the memory of those comrades who have succumbed to Aids epidemic.

She says day in Uganda will be held in Kiryandongo tomorrow.

She says at the moment, about 1.5 million people are living with HIV in Uganda and she adds that about 567 young people are contracting HIV every week in Uganda.
