Media freedoms are declining worldwide and Uganda is no exception.

According to the latest World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders, Uganda has dropped from 102nd place in 2016 to 112 in the 2017.

The report blames this trend on regular intimidation and violence against journalists, and serious media freedom violations in the 2016 general election.

This revelation e national event to mark the World Press Freedom Day is organized by the African Center for Media Excellence.

The day’s activities will start with a short procession from Parliament Gardens to Railway Gardens starting at 9 a.m before a conference for which the key note speaker is Dr William Tayeebwa, lecturer and acting head, Department of Journalism and Communication at Makerere University

A regional conference will later be held on May 5 in Mbarara.
