A group of Acholi leaders has attacked Winnie Byanyima the Executive Director Oxfam International and wife to opposition leader Dr. Kiiza Besigye for standing as surety for businessman Matthew Kanyamunyu who is accused of murdering one Kenneth Akena.

This comes as the High Court in Kampala has started hearing a bail application by businessman Mathew Kanyamunyu and his two co-accused persons.

A team of lawyers led by Ronald Muhwezi has submitted that their clients have a constitutional right to be released on bail and that they will not interfere with police investigations if granted bail.

They have also presented before Court eight sureties including Winnie Byanyima, Edith Byanyima, Martha Byanyima, their brother Edward Juliu Kanyamunyu and others.

However, Acholi leaders led by Aruu County MP Odonga Otto have attacked Byanyima saying it is wrong for her to be seen to side with a suspected criminal.

Hearing continues before Justice Elizabeth Kabanda.
