Hearing of the 2016 poll petition resumes this morning at the Supreme Court in Kampala with submissions from the Attorney General.

The Attorney General is the third respondent in the case, the first and second being President Yoweri Museveni and the Electoral Commission respectively.

The Attorney General is represented by among others; the Deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana and the Solicitor General Francis Atoke.

Earlier, President Museveni’s lawyers asked court to dismiss the petition for lack of evidence to back it up, while yesterday, the Electoral Commission was ordered to produce vote tally sheets which are the basis of some of the queries raised by the petitioner(former premier Amama Mbabazi).

Hearing of the petition in which former presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi is challenging president Museveni election victory is expected to be wound up today.

The 9 Supreme Court judges led by the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe are expected to give a ruling by March 31st.

Meanwhile in a separate development, the Supreme Court has been hit by a water crisis.

Lawyers, journalists and the general public attending the hearing of the presidential election petition now have to go to the neighboring building to answer nature’s call after the water system in the court premises broke down yesterday.

The Supreme Court Registrar Tom Chemtai however says they are working hard to see that the water supply system is restored.

The Supreme Court is located in Kampala’s leafy suburbs of Kololo with high class public places like hotels and restaurants in the neighborhood.
