The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali has condemned the decision taken by the Church of England allowing gays to be consecrated Bishops.

The decision allows them to serve as Bishops as long as they remain celibate.

He says it is very discouraging for the Church of England, which brought the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Uganda, has taken such a significant step away from that very Gospel that brought life, light, and hope.

He adds that this decision violates the church’s Biblical faith and agreements within the Anglican Communion.

Bishop Ntagali notes that this decision only makes the brokenness of the Communion worse and is particularly disheartening coming from the Mother Church.

He says the church of Uganda stands with those in the Church of England who continue to stand for the Biblical and historic faith and practice of the Church.

“The church’s grief and sense of betrayal are beyond words”, he says.
