Gen Aronda at Parliament

The disagreements over calls for the resignation of former army commander Gen. Aronda Nyakairima have drawn the president’s attention.

Parliament’s Appointments Committee chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga will meet President Museveni tomorrow to discuss the pending approval of two ministerial appointees.

These include Internal Affairs appointee Gen Aronda Nyakayirima and the junior Health Minister Erioda Tumwesigye.

The meeting is expected to take place at State House in Entebbe.

The committee met the president last week but failed to reach an agreement on whether or not Gen Aronda Nyakayirima should resign from the army before he takes up the ministerial position.

The president is said to have told the members that it was not necessary for the General to resign from the army because the country needs the army.

The committee is also expected to discuss the issue of regional balance, after some MPs raised concern that 51% of the members of the cabinet hail come from one region.
