President Yoweri Museveni has asked all motorists to be mindful of speed this festive season.

This was in his Christmas message tweeted last evening.

Meanwhile, bus drivers especially those plying the Eastern route to Kenya have been warned against carrying suspected terrorist during this festive season.

Kenya has in the recent past been the target of spontaneous attacks by the Al- Shabab militants including the one in Mandera County that left over 35 passengers dead.

The Chairman Uganda Bus Owners Association Fred Bahati says bus operators should desist from picking passengers on the way and also ensure that all luggage is thoroughly checked.

Bahati adds that all bus drivers have been instructed to record details of all passengers clearly indicating their identity and destination.

Meanwhile, transport fares continue to sky rocket making it difficult for people who wish to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones upcountry.

At the Qualicel Bus terminal besides the journey to Kabaale now costs 60,000 shillings, up from the usual Shs 25,000, while for Mbarara the fare is Shs 50,000.

But besides the hikes, business is almost paralyzed in down town Kampala due to the increased traffic congestion.

In a separate development, the police have issued security guidelines to be followed by religious leaders ahead of the Christmas night prayers.

According to the police director of operations Andrew Felix Kaweesi, this is meant to ensure security to believers all at places of worship.

Kaweesi advises parents against taking infants to places of worship but also ensure they are left in good hands at home.

He urges religious leaders to comply with the directive and support efforts by security agencies to combat terrorism.
