The FDC Party president Col. Kizza Besigye has been granted bail.

He has been granted a non-cash bail of 10million shillings and his sureties asked to sign bonds worth 50 million shillings not cash each.

Besigye appeared before Court in Nakasongora with his co-accused who include Aaron Kaija, Jethro Niwagaba and Francis Twijukye.

The suspects presented several sureties including MPs Kassiano Wadri and Elijah Okupa, Rubaga division chairperson elect Joy Sebugwawo and former Buganda premier Mulwanyamuli Ssemogerere.

The others Chapa Karuhanga and FDC’s Sarah Eperu.

Besigye however applied for bail before the Court without his lawyers.

He was arrested last week and charged before the Nabweru magistrates Court with holding an unlawful assembly with intent to breach peace and cause disharmony during the Walk to Work campaign.

The case was today shifted to Nakasongora Court but Besigye’s lawyers say they were not informed about the transfer.

The lawyers appeared before the Nabweru Court where they were met by a notice board announcement that the magistrate in charge of the case would not be at the station today.

Speaking to KFM earlier, one of Besigye’s lawyer David Mpanga said transferring the case without informing them was a miscarriage of justice.
