Uganda’s welterweight boxer Owen Isaac Kibira outclassed Md Hossain Ali of Bangladesh,  winning 5-0 to storm the quarterfinals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games last night.

Kibira, a member of Kyengera Boxing Club, got a bye to the Round of 16 last Friday and yesterday became the second Ugandan boxer to win in Birmingham.

Kibira did not knock out his opponent as his club coach Juma Nsubuga had predicted but became the first among six Bombers to win by unanimous decision.

Three boxers have already been eliminated.

Next, Kibira faces Zambia’s 2020 Olympian Stephen Zimba tomorrow (Thursday) in a battle for the coveted medal bracket.
