Government has dismissed as wrong a claim that the ongoing matter of kidnaps is only targeting the people of Buganda region.

This is after the Dokolo Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal raised concern that the ongoing kidnaps seem to mainly take place in the central region something that has caused panic with many wondering which region will be next.

“ I am very scared as to why these kidnaps are taking place in Buganda, I am worried after Buganda that the next region could be the north,” said Ogwal.

In response however the internal affairs minister Gen Jeje Odongo says criminality moves in a wave adding that just like it was the case with women murders in the country, the kidnap wave unfortunately has started from the central region.

“ Buganda is not being targeted, you will remember in 2017 we had the murders of women in the country, it was in a particular are of this country, What I am saying is that criminality tends to move in a wave and cycles, we need to take note of that, its not intended, the wave simply  happens to be in this particular place,” said Gen Odongo.

In his statement before parliament about the alleged kidnaps in the country, Gen Odongo said investigations are currently ongoing to trace the 31 people majority of whom are from Kyotera district and Kyebando in Nansana.

He  however says they have managed to handle 13 cases and admits that majority were not kidnapped as alleged but rather were arrested lawfully while some have been charged and released on bail.

The minister said the following; Ronald Lumu, Kabaale Benard, Mugarura Ronald and Shafik were not kidnapped as alleged but were instead  arrested for aiding and abetting terrorism.
