Following the recent bus crashes in the country, the police directorate of traffic and road safety has moved to reinstate the driver badge policy.
Addressing journalists today at the police headquarters, the traffic police spokesperson, Farida Nampiima said the move is aimed at cracking the whip on unqualified drivers and tracking their movements.
This follows the increased road crashes with the latest figures showing that 79 people perished in accidents in the first week of January 2023 alone.
She has now issued a one-week ultimatum to all bus owners to submit particulars of their drivers to the Ministry of Works and Transport to enable them acquire badges.
According to Nampiima, every bus company must present its own route chart, and that no bus driver will be allowed on the road without a badge.
The badge to be displayed on the bus must have a picture of the driver, their respectful names, permit number, and class, according to traffic police.
