The government, through the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) is set to invest over Shs 10 billion in the coffee sector to create about 25,000 jobs for unemployed youth.

The PSFU Chief Executive Officer Steven Asiimwe says the project is to be co-founded by the MasterCard Foundation.

He says currently, the private sector is engaging with 12 local coffee companies with an emphasis on value addition and packaging to ensure high-quality but affordable coffee is delivered to the domestic market.

Asiimwe made the remarks while signing a Memorandum Of Understanding with the Uganda Coffee Development Authority to promote the same.

He says 70% of the 25,000 beneficiaries will be young women.
