Two to three children die every week due to malnutrition in Karamoja region

The Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa has said it is not necessary to recall parliament over the current fuel crisis in the country.

This comes after the Leader of Opposition in parliament Mathias Mpuuga wrote to the Speaker requesting that a parliamentary sitting be convened over the same.

In a January 19th letter to the Speaker, Mpuuga says there is a looming risk of a country shut down in the event that urgent interventions are not undertaken by the government to address the crisis.

However, Tayebwa says parliament has many issues to handle now including the budget, arguing that such a request is simply diversionary.

He says the situation has now improved and so there is no need for such a special sitting asking the opposition to be patient until Thursday next week when parliament resumes.

Fuel prices in the country have hit a record high with a liter selling at shs 12,000 in Hoima oil city and between shs 5000 and shs 7000 at some filling stations in Kampala.
