Candidates in the Kampala mayoral race have welcomed the decision by Electoral Commission to postpone their elections, amidst reports of widespread rigging.
The elections were postponed following reports of massive rigging, with boxes packed with pre-ticked ballot papers recovered at polling stations.
Speaking to KFM, mayoral aspirant Francis Babu demanded for an explanation and apology from the Electoral Commission for having allowed such a mess to happen.
Babu described the elections as ultimate robbery that should be condemned.
The other candidate in the race Mike Mabikke calls for thorough investigation of the exercise and stern action taken against those implicated.
Independent candidate Elias Lukwago says his agents at the various polling stations have been beaten up and many are hospitalized.
He has condemned the violence that marred the elections and urged the Electoral Commission and the Police to take responsibility for what happened.
The other independent candidate in the race Sandra Ngabo has threatened to quit the race if the candidate implicated in acts of malpractice is not penalized.
Addressing a press conference a while ago, the NRM Candidate Peter Sematimba denied any wrong doing and called for investigations into the malpractice.
The Electoral Commission is yet to announce a date for the next elections.
