Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo on Friday condemned the leadership of the Uganda Law Society (ULS) for its repeated attacks on judges.

Speaking at the launch of the new law year, where ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde and his executive were invited guests, Dollo demanded an immediate apology from the ULS leaders to Court of Appeal Judge Musa Sekaana, who was allegedly verbally abused and insulted by Ssemakadde.

Earlier, Dollo directed that Ssemakadde would not be allowed to speak at the event until he made amends, breaking with the tradition where the Law Society typically makes remarks.

“The President of the Uganda Law Society, Isaac Ssemakadde, will not speak at the Judiciary function until you make amends,” Dollo said.

Failure to apologize may prompt action from the head of the judiciary.

This public rebuke highlights the ongoing rift between the judiciary and the ULS.
