The National Unity Platform party President Robert Kyagulanyi has condemned the continued closure of school for two years now.

While addressing party leaders at his party headquarters in Kamwokya, Kyagulanyi says the closure of schools is no longer a smart idea and it’s also a sign of incompetent leaders in the education sector.

”I expressed concern about the bleak future of school-going children and youth who have now spent nearly 2 years home. The continued closure of schools is majorly the result of incompetent and unbothered leaders in the education sector, rather than a genuine intention to contain Covid-19. Closing schools to contain Covid-19 is no longer a smart idea,” he said.

While some students especially candidates have been able to go back to school between January 2021- June 2021, majority have been home for close to two years.

In the recently concluded presidential address, President Museveni opened universities and tertiary institutions. However, he said children will return to schools in January 2022 after teachers and non teaching staff have been vaccinated.
