By Ruth Anderah.

High Court Judge Musa Ssekaana has directed the immediate release of Movit products boss Simpson Birungi.

This follows yesterday’s order directing Attorney General or ISO director to produce him in court today to answer charges against him but nothing was done.

The judge ruled that in the absence of Attorney General or director general of ISO to explain the detention beyond the 48hours and place not authorized by law, the person be released from the illegal detention.

Last week Birungi’ s family petitioned High Court- civil division for orders that the Attorney General and  Uganda  police immediately  produces their relative in court.

According to the family, Birungi was arrested by armed forces  on June  7th while answering a bond at Kibuli Police on allegations of murdering his former manager  Stephen Asaba.

Asaba was murdered and his body dumped in Nakawuka in Kajjansi town council, Wakiso district.

The family represented by Birungi’s wife Sheila Kyokusiima sued the director general of  Internal Security Organisation (ISO), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and attorney general (AG) whom she claims are holding her husband illegally since the law requires them  to produce him in court within  48hrs after arrest .
