Uganda Cranes last night beat Niger 2-0 in Morocco but failed to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following Tanzania’s draw against Algeria.

Uganda entered the game with only one target of winning but praying for Tanzania to lose against Algeria.

The Cranes secured an early lead against Niger with two goals from Aziz Kayondo and Joseph Ochaya and went on to win the game 2-0 but their celebrations were halted by Tanzania who managed to get a goalless draw with Algeria.

The goalless draw for Tanzania helped them collect 8 points, finishing one above Uganda who finished third and Algeria topped the group.

Uganda will miss out on a second consecutive AFCON final tournament having failed to qualify in the 2021 tournament.

The cranes will now shift focus on the World Cup qualifiers and were drawn in group G with Algeria, Guinea, Mozambique, Botswana and Somalia.

They will be back in action in November with two away fixtures in World Cup qualifiers against Guinea and Somalia between November 13th and 21st.
