The opposition Democratic Party (DP) is calling for the resignation of the Attorney General Fred Ruhindi over alleged failure to advise government on the Kampala Capital City Authority Act 2010.
The party says Ruhindi should have objected to the tabling of the controversial amendment bill that they claim contravenes the constitution.
DP spokesman Paul Kenneth Kakande says though the Kampala Capital City Authority Amendment Bill 2015 was dropped, it exposed government’s inefficiency in defending the constitution.
Government on Monday put on hold its push for amendments to the KCCA Act of 2010.
The amendments would put an end to the election of the lord mayor by the general public, instead transferring such powers to the city councilors, a proposal that drew fierce reaction from a cross section of Ugandans especially members of parliament representing areas of Greater Kampala.
Government has however remained silent on the reasons behind this move.
