A pre-assessment team is set to be sent to Buhweju to ascertain if the ongoing display of the voter register is being conducted as required by law.

The Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) says it has received reports of some electoral commission officials closing earlier than the constitutionally mandated time.

CCEDU project coordinator Chrispy Kaheru has told KFM the team sets off in two days.

However, the Buhweju District Returning Officer Ponsiano Kasene has denied the allegations saying though, that if proved to be true, such officers shall be brought to book.

The display exercise is ongoing ahead of the nomination exercise slated for 10th and 11th October. While the by election is slated for October 30th.

The Buhweju district Woman Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Joy Kariisa early last month.
