The Electoral Commission has suspended campaign meetings in districts/cities categorised by Ministry of Health as having high spread of Covid19.

This has been revealed by the commission’s chairman Justice Simon Byabakama who says the ban takes effect today and will affect 13 districts including cities.

He says no campaign meetings will be held in Kampala, Mbarara, Kabale, Luwero, Kasese, Masaka, Wakiso, Kabarole, Jinja, Kalungu, Kazo , Tororo and greater Mukono.

Justice Byabakama however says candidates will be allowed to hold virtual meetings or use the available media platforms to reach out to their supporters.

He warns that non compliance of the set guidelines may lead to total suspension of all campaigns for candidates at all levels from local government to presidential.
