Government has been asked to protect the vulnerable groups of people especially women who are the biggest producers of food in the supply chain, against COVID-19.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, (FAO) country representative Antonio Querido, more than 70% of the food in Africa is produced by the women and yet they have other duties like catering for children, the sick and elderly.
He says this makes them more exposed to the virus, hence the urgent need to have them protected.
Querido meanwhile says the future of food systems in Uganda in the wake of covid19 pandemic will entirely depend on the set policies put in place.
He says at the global level, together with other partners they have agreed on a number of measures which are relevant to the current pandemic so that they can ensure food security.
