Speaker Kadaga

Parliament has asked the executive to explain the discrepancies in the payment of salaries for civil servants.

Several public servants including teachers and members of the police force have not received their salaries since May.

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has directed the Minister of Public Service to present before parliament a comprehensive statement within three weeks.

The Speaker says Parliament was recently under pressure to pass the 2 different schedules of supplementary budgets but the civil servants still haven’t been paid.

A section of MPs including Odonga Otto and Medard Bitekyerezo among others say that the minister made a commitment before Parliament that salaries would be paid soon after the supplementary budget was passed but that hasn’t come to pass.

The State Minister for Public Service Sezi Mbaguta however says those who missed their salaries will be paid this month.

Mbaguta says payments are being prepared now, promising to table before Parliament a comprehensive report on the matter.
