The opposition Forum for Democratic Change camp in Njeru Municipality has accused police of conniving with the NRM to bribe voters.

The party’s Deputy Secretary General Herold Kaija says some candidates’ agents are moving around dishing out money to voters at different polling stations.

He adds that even those who were arrested yesterday were released under unclear conditions.

However Ssezibwa regional police spokesperson Hellen Butoto has told KFM that she is not aware of any such reports.

The FDC flag bearer Amos Kivumbi is running against the NRM’s Yasin Kyazze for the mayoral seat.

In Apac, some candidates and voters have complained of irregularities, voter bribery and intimidation.

Police have confirmed the reports of irregularities, saying some boda boda cyclists have allegedly been hired by some political parties to transport voters to the polling stations.

Independent candidate Rev John Robert Atim Etime says at Acekene Trading Centre, Arocha Division, a party mobiliser was seen distributing money to the youth, women and older persons this morning.

The North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, David Ongom, says they have deployed adequately in the municipality and are encouraging people to report genuine cases of violence

Former State minister for Tourism Jovino Akaki Ayumu is among seven candidates contesting for newly created Apac Municipality MP seat.

The others are FDC’s George Okello Ekwaro, UPC’s Patrick Ochan and three other Independents.
