Five supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) in Busia have been admitted to Dabani hospital after they sustained serious injuries in a fight that broke during a party meeting.

Five supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) in Busia have been admitted to Dabani hospital after they sustained serious injuries in a fight that broke during a party meeting.

The fight is said to have broken out after some party members who were not invited for the interim committee meeting meant to resolve issues regarding members registration attempted to force their way into the meeting.

In the fracas that ensued several party members got injured while the party offices and houses in the neighborhood got damaged.

Meanwhile, Andrew Kizza Kaluya, the NUP Eastern region chairperson explains the circumstances that led to the fracas,” I  called for aa meeting  at 10:00pm to decide on the names that will take charge of this as Busia District but unluckily  before reaching my office I was called saying they are two groups of NUP supporters  and stated violent and the police came to clam the situation and I want to thank them for that.” Andrew said.
