Grief and fear has engulfed residents of Kitgum Municipality after unknown gunmen shot dead Mr Tony Olanya, the former head of Customs and Immigration at Uganda Revenue Authority in Kitgum district
on Tuesday evening.
Mr  Olanya  was working with  Uganda Revenue Authority before he retired in 2014. He was gunned down at his home in Ayul A, Pager Division at about 8:30 Pm over unclear circumstances according to police reports.
The deceased owned a mobile money outlet and had just been appointed as Chairperson Public Account committee in Kitgum Municipality.

His death comes just a week after unknown gunmen shot dead Ms Grace Ageno, the Kitgum town councillor for Greenland Parish in Pager Division.

Kitgum District Police Commander Jackson Baryampika, confirmed the shooting of Mr Olanya in a telephone interview. He said the deceased was shot five times in the stomach by two men
armed with a gun and machete.

“The deceased was with his wife taking tea when two gunmen stormed his house; they demanded money before shooting him. He died instantly from over bleeding,” Mr Baryampika said.

He said police has launched investigation into the motive of the shooting  the deceased  Olanya.
