Bukenya

Former Vice President Prof Gilbert Bukenya has denied involvement in rebel activity.

Addressing the media at his Kakiri country home this morning, Bukenya said it’s a smear campaign by people aimed at stifling democracy for those wishing to vie for senior positions in government.

At the news conference, one Frank Kigozi a supporter of former VP Gilbert Bukenya was paraded before journalists to confirm a plot to incriminate prof for alleged recruitment of rebels.

Kigozi claims that he was arrested last week in Nansana by plain cloted men who interrogated him on Thursday for being part of a group allegedly being trained by Bukenya.

He says the men claimed that Bukenya is sending youth to China for training with help from some unnamed army officers.

However, speaking to KFM, the army spokesperson Col Paddy Ankunda denied knowledge of any such reports, rubbishing them as totally baseless.

Meanwhile Prof Bukenya condemns the claims and maintains that he is not frightened and still intends to contest for presidency come 2016.

He says he will go through NRM party primaries if the process is democratic but if flawed, he will stand independently.

The former vice president has released his manifest outlining five key areas of focus.

It is less than three years to the 2016 General election but former Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya is already outlining his vision for the country.

Prof. Bukenya, also Busiro North MP, who recently declared his intentions to vie for the presidency, says agriculture, education, health, technology and peace will be his major pointers to transform Uganda.

He says these sectors have declined in performance and need to be revived to be more beneficial to Ugandans.
