Four people have been fined Shs100,000 each by a village court in Buyende District after pleading guilty of dodging a funeral.

The culprits appeared before Bulondo village court in Ndorwa sub-county after they were found working on a sugarcane plantation yet one of the residents had passed on.

The area head of mourners Peter Isabirye said the resident passed a by-law earlier prohibiting anybody from going to the gardens when one of them dies.

Isabirye says the fine was decided by a village court presided over by the area Local Council 1 Chairperson Moses Isabirye.

“This amount included Shs20,000 for the police officers who helped with effecting the arrest of the trio”, he said.

Isabirye said the fourth person who escaped arrest was also charged and would pay the fine once arrested.
