Government to pay those affected by construction of the standard gauge railway.

David Kugonza | December 1, 2016

The Parliamentary physical infrastructure committee has grilled the ministry of works officials led by the state minister for Transport Aggrey Bagiire for failure to compensate persons to be affected by construction of the standard gauge railway.

The committee noted that government ordered people near the marked land especially at Nagongera in eastern Uganda to reserve 100 meters, but the few that have received money were only compensated for 60 meters.

The committee chairperson Denis Sabiiti says many residents had to abandon their land, but up to now, no compensation has been paid.

They have now asked government to ensure that it fully compensates all land owners.
