The government has been urged to consider increasing funding to allow more Ugandans access clean cooking technologies.
This comes from the Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking (UNACC) which says this will not only save the environment but health of citizens.
The organisation’s national coordinator Mr Alfred Kusiima while speaking during a stakeholders engagement in Kampala on the renewable energy policy review process, said current statistics indicate that over 19000 Ugandans die each year due to smoke related diseases.
He now says there is need for government to come up with innovative financing mechanisms to enable citizens access better cooking technologies at affordable rates.
“Stress on the environment is increasing and that means we have to apply innovative mechanisms of how we are going to sustainably use biomas. We think this policy is going to address issues of accessibility, affordability and conducive working and business environment among others”, said Mr Kusiima.
UNACC is an umbrella alliance and an implementation partner for stakeholders in the effort to address the speedy adoption of clean cooking solutions.
