By Moses Kyeyune.

The cabinet has approved 106 billion shillings to address losses and damages arising from the disaster across the country.

The money according to the minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Musa Ecweru will come from the Contingency Fund.

Ecweru has been presenting a statement to Parliament on government’s interventions in addressing emerging disasters in the country.

Out of the money, 40 billion shillings will be for food relief, 26 billion will be used by the ministry of education to repair 356 schools that have been damaged by winds.

Ecweru also says that 39 billion will be used by the ministry of agriculture to procure fast maturing seeds to be distributed to 33 districts that have lost plantations due to strong winds and another 1.6 billion will be used by the ministry of health to deal with diseases and also repair health facilities.

The minister blamed the disasters on deforestation.
