Police in Masaka are holding the head teacher and the director of Nyendo Modern Primary school where a pupil died in fire.

The duo’s arrest stems from a fire that razed the girl’s dormitory on Tuesday night killing a primary two pupil identified as Asmat Najjuko a daughter to the director.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the inferno was caused by electric short circuit.

Masaka Regional Fire Brigade Officer, Bernard Ssembusi has described the incident as unfortunate saying it should be an eye opener to parents to always check the condition the schools before taking their children.

He said the dormitory was in a bad shape and it was poorly wired which resulted into a short circuit that led to the fire that claimed the minors’ life.

The Southern Region Police Spokesperson Noah Sserunjogi has confirmed the duo’s arrest saying that they are likely to face charges of negligence when police investigations are completed.

While Stephen Kakeeto Masaka Municipality Principal Education Officer said that they have ordered the school administrators to send back the learners until the official opening of the term.
