Health experts have outlined the key drivers of the rising cases of kidney failures being registered in the country.
The president of the Uganda Kidney Foundation Dr. Robert Kalyesubula says one out of 10 adults in Uganda is suffering from a kidney disease.
He says the increasing cases of non-communicable diseases being registered such as diabetes, cancer-related diseases, and conic use of drugs have been attributed to being at the forefront of causing kidney failures.
“We are being approached by different people but unfortunately, the population is poor and I don’t know what we can do about that but there are many people who are willing to join the industry of dialysis,” Dr. Kalyesubula said.
He says 6% of the adults who have kidney diseases require the support of a dialysis machine, and for every 100 people who need a dialysis machine, only 5% to 10% can afford its cost.
