A group of cancer survivors has today petitioned the Speaker of parliament seeking urgent re-tooling of the Uganda Cancer Institute.
The Uganda Women’s Cancer Organization claims that although remarkable progress has been made regarding development of the cancer institute, essential machines are still missing.
The group’s chairperson Rebecca Mayengo cites the Radiotherapy and bone scan machines which are not available yet they are crucial in cancer treatment.
This comes as the country prepares to hold national celebrations to commemorate the World Cancer Day which were postponed twice.
The World Cancer Day is marked on February 4th to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.
