Government has noted with concern that the high cost of connecting new electricity users is hindering the success of the Rural Electrification Project.

The State Minister for Energy Simon D,ujanga says the 200 dollars being paid by domestic users to get electricity is prohibitive for many.

He says efforts should now be geared at subsidizing this cost if the rural electrification program is to bear fruit.

He says currently only 7% of the people living in rural areas have access to power.
