The suspension of UPDF operations in the Central African Republic continues to draw mixed reactions from different individuals and organisations.
The latest is from the Invisible Children – a non-government organization that seeks to put an end to the practices of the LRA.
It warns that the suspension of UPDF operations in the CAR could hamper regional efforts against the Lord’s Resistance Army.
Patrick Mundunga the regional technical advisor says the 3 year operations in CAR have reduced civilian killings by 90%.
He is urging the Uganda government, African Union and United States to uphold their commitments to ending the LRA conflict.
The UPDF and American Special Forces early this week suspended operations against the LRA rebels in the Central African Republic following a directive from Seleka military junta.
The military junta reportedly ordered that all foreign troops withdraw from their country.
Consequently, the UPDF political commissar, Col. Felix Kulayigye, who is also acting as Spokesperson, said they had “temporarily suspended” the operations “until further notice”.
