The Irish government has donated7.2 million Euros which is approximately 27.5 billion shillings to Uganda to promote quality education in the Karamoja Sub-region.

The five-year program will be implemented by the United Nations Children’s Fund and the ministry of Education.

The state minister for education, Rosemary Sseninde says, the seven districts in the Karamoja region will benefit from the grant which will focus on improving the learning environment for vulnerable children in the region.

The government estimates that 82% of all the 6 to 17 year old children in the region are living in poverty and this has deprived them from accessing education.

Sseninde says over 150,000 school going children in the region will benefit.

She however, adds that although government has constructed schools in the region only 30% of the children are accessing education while 70% have still failed to go to school.
