Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA)has welcomed government’s move to create a special committee to address their concerns relating to the South Sudan conflict.

The committee is expected to among other things expedite the process of repatriation of proceeds of Ugandan companies held in commercial banks in Sudan.

Last month, over 20,000 Ugandans were evacuated from South Sudan following fresh fighting that broke out in the capital Juba, leading to loss of property, while others left their monies in South Sudan’s commercial banks.

Speaking to KFM, the KACITA spokesperson Issa Ssekitto says the gesture is timely since many companies are now stuck with no operating capital.

This subcommittee comprises of the Attorney General as well as Ministers of Trade and Finance.
